When you know that his parish was created on St. Matthew's day, you don't have to look too long to find out where the name comes from. As for "du-Parc", it was added in the 1980s and 1990s because of its proximity to La Mauricie National Park. This is indeed the western entrance to the park, accessible from the village centre via chemin Saint-François. We won't miss the pretty covered bridge over the Shawinigan River. If you're around in mid-August, don't be surprised if you see many people dressed as in the Middle Ages: the Battle of Bicolline, a life-size role-playing game, takes place here every year.
