It is a very small village of barely 300 inhabitants, located at an altitude of 2,400 m. It is an ancient settlement, since the Inca Trail passed through here, and Diego de Almagro and Pedro de Valdivia recognized the area during the conquest. The church of San Roque was originally built in 1750, but what we have in front of us is an identical replica, built in 1940. If you make the effort to stay here, be sure to take a dip in the pools of Peine (Cochas) for a reasonable price. The setting is absolutely beautiful, overlooking the salar and less than an hour and a half from the Monturaqui crater. There is a public transport from Calama and San Pedro.
