The city of Osorno is an important crossroads on the Pan-American Highway. Founded in 1553 by General Don Francisco de Villagra, it was destroyed many times by Mapuche attacks. In 1846, the first German settlers arrived and their development of the land gave the region an important role in Chilean agricultural production. Their influence was also decisive in the formation of the regional cultural identity. The 1920s saw the arrival of Syrian and Palestinian families, which encouraged the development of regional trade. Today, Osorno is one of the most dynamic cities in Chile
