It is the oldest park in the country, since it was created in 1926. Beyond its sumptuous volcanoes that shape the surrounding relief, the site is also of ethnological interest: the Huilliche, the first inhabitants of the region, lived and traded with the Puelche who lived on the eastern slope of the cordillera. In the 17th century, the Jesuits of Chiloé had traced a path to found missions in the eastern region of the Cordillera.
