Ilidža/Илиџа (pronounced "ilid-tcha") has a population of about 75,000, 87% of whom are Bosniaks. The city is part of the Sarajevo canton, within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located 10 km southwest of the center of Sarajevo. Streetcar connections: line 3 with Baščaršija and line 6 with Skenderija.Wedged between Mount Igman and the airport, this chic suburb of Sarajevo offers a striking condensation of history. It was here that the earliest remains of the Butmir culture were discovered, a Neolithic society that flourished in the area between 5100 and 4500 BC. The Romans created a thermal and administrative center around the Bosna spring.
