Situation - The waterfalls of Skakavac (pronounced «ska-ka-vats») are located in the municipality of Nahorevo (550 hab) in the canton of Sarajevo. They are located 13 km north of Sarajevo city center.Description - These are the highest waterfalls in the country. The small Skakavac River makes a jump of 98 m high, marking the abrupt end of a beautiful plateau dominated by Mount Bukovik (1,533 m) where it takes its source. It owes its name to the noise of the water by falling that evokes that of a "locust" (skakavac). The waterfall and part of the pine and beech forest surrounding it are classified as "natural monument" (1,430 ha). The site is well equipped with a lookout (vidikovac) at the top of the cliff (1,090 m above sea level) which offers a beautiful panorama. On the downside, a wooden bridge approaches the waterfall closest to the waterfall. The place is appreciated by the Patens who come picnic in summer. There is no place to recover on site.
