Mount Trebević/Требевић (pronounced "trebevitch") overlooks the old city of Sarajevo to the southeast. It is shared between the municipalities of Sarajevo (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Istočno Sarajevo (Bosnian Serb Republic). Access from the neighborhood of Bistrik by road (5 km) or by the Sarajevo cable car."The Trebevič returns to the city!" With this slogan, in 2018, the authorities of Sarajevo welcomed the reopening of the cable car connecting the neighborhood of Bistrik to this green mountain culminating at 1,627 m above sea level. During the last war, most of the infrastructure of Mount Trebević was destroyed: the cable car itself, which dated from 1959, but also some of the infrastructure of the 1984 Winter Olympics, of which the impressive and long concrete carcass of the bobsled track remains. From April 1992 to February 1996, the mountain was indeed an intense combat zone between the defenders and the Bosnian-Serb army that was shelling the city. Since then, the inhabitants of Sarajevo have regained possession of "their" mountain and now flock in the evenings and on weekends to enjoy the magnificent view from the cable car arrival station. Most of the landmines have been removed and the thick forests of beech, fir and spruce trees are now suitable for descents on foot or by mountain bike with picnic stops. Several places are also developed with rental cottages, small hotels and restaurants.
