Swellendam is the third oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town and Stellenbosch. This region of the Overberg had already attracted many farmers in search of land and freedom. However, the administration of the Dutch East India Company caught up with them and founded the town of Swellendam in 1745. Today we discover a quiet town at the foot of the majestic Langeberga. In the center of the town is the large Dutch Reformed church. It stands in its beautiful white coat, among all the historical monuments that have been perfectly restored. The village has good restaurants, nice cafés, small stores and galleries.
