The Langeberg Mountains are an undeniable feature of this 4,000-hectare park, which was established in 1931 to protect the last remaining specimens of the bontebok, for which the park is named. With 200 species of birds and a speciality of bonteboks, whose numbers are growing steadily to 3,000, it is a paradise for the preservation of animal life. The reserve is also home to grey rheboks, grysboks, steenboks, hartebeests, spindly duikers and mountain zebras. In addition to trekking, mountain biking and hiking, the park is bordered on the west by the Breede River and invites fishing, swimming and bird watching.
