Here the wind seems to come in a direct line from the pole, an opalescent light bathes the rocks where the ship Arniston, which gave its name to the village, sank in 1815, the day 372 people died. This modest fishing village is very fashionable, many South Africans come here to find their "Brittany". The fynbos and dunes spread out, protecting and shielding the Arniston coastline. The rough and wild rocks draw a lacy coastline, in the cool turquoise and transparent water. A few coves open up for beach time, such as the beautiful Die Otter Beach, or the more accessible Roman Beach.
