Founded in 1922, the small town of Bonnievale takes its name from the old railway line that passed through here and was called Bonnie Vale. Lost not far from the banks of the River Breerivier, we are in wine and cheese country where all that is missing is a good baker. To the northwest of the pretty town of Swellendam, a detour to this town in the municipality of Langeberg offers the relatively amazing opportunity to visit the largest gouda cheese factory in South Africa. Vineyard enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with a number of wineries and vineyards in quick succession. Wine lovers can try the wines of the renowned Weltevrede Wine Estate.
