We get closer to the coast to reach this small provincial capital. Dông Hoi is a city of fishermen and the seafood of the province is famous. The city offers 2 small beaches: Nhat Le (2 km north) and Da Nhay (24 km from Dông Hoi, at the foot of the small Ly Hoa pass). There is no particular reason to make an extended stop in Dông Hoi which has long been used as a base for visiting the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. It is a stopover for those who arrive by plane or train. The village of Son Trach, 55 km to the northwest, now serves as the headquarters for visiting the caves and the park.
