Phu Dông village is also known as Giong village, after its legendary hero. The legend of Giong. According to a very old popular legend, during the reign of the 6th King Hung, a village woman walked in the footprint left by a giant before giving birth to a child, Giong. At the time, the country was under threat from the Ân, invaders from the north. At the age of 3, Giong still couldn't speak and spent his days lying down. In fact, he was lying on his bed when a royal messenger arrived in the village to mobilize the people against the invaders. Giong immediately stood up and announced his intention to fight the enemy. His voracious appetite gave him the size of a giant. He asked the king's messengers for a cuirass, a helmet and an iron steed. Once the king had granted his request, he set off to fight the enemy, who soon cut him to pieces. Giong's spear broke, but he immediately replaced it with a bamboo grove. After victory, Giong galloped to Mount Soc Son, where he discarded his armour and hung it from a calambac. Today, a stone block known as the "undressing tree" commemorates this episode. On his iron horse, Giong rode off to heaven. The king conferred on him the dignity of Celestial King of Phu Dông.
