Some 60km from Hoa Binh, Mai Châu is a beautiful valley overlooked by karst peaks and dotted with houses on stilts, inhabited mainly by the white Tay. A pass overlooks the village of Mai Châu, offering a bird's-eye view of the valley and its checkerboard of rice paddies dotted with villages. It's a destination that allows you to immerse yourself in a landscape that is still preserved and typical of the culture of the minorities in the mountainous regions of the north-west. On the road to Diên Biên Phu, it's often the first stop that marks the break with the urban world and the discovery of the world of valleys and farm work.
