The road to Hoa Lu goes down the Song De valley. On the way, beautiful rice fields lined with plantations, and a savannah landscape as soon as we move away from the river. Rocky peaks covered with vegetation emerge from the ground and form a singular landscape of amazing beauty. In the 20th century, Hoa Lu was a capital of the Dinh and later of the Lê. Like Thâng Long and Cô Loa, it was built on the model of Sino-Vietnamese citadels: a royal city and its temple surrounded by ramparts with, in their center, the imperial residence. The site, which belongs to the Trang An Landscape Complex, is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
