Travel Guide Omalos

From Lakki to Omalos, the landscape is devoid of houses and it climbs. A little before arriving at the village, after the pass of Neratzopetra located at 1 200 m of altitude, we discover the plateau of Omalos, an irregular circle of a width of approximately 4 km. The small village is perched at an altitude of 1080 m. It consists of a few old houses and a chapel surrounded by hotels and taverns that are a bit out of place in the landscape. Omalos and its plateau belong entirely to the goats, sheep and shepherds. They stay there in the cool of the summer season before going down to the coast in places like Lissos during the winter period. In winter, everything is deserted and covered with snow. Some hotels and taverns serve breakfast for the walkers during the high season.
