The port of Skala is built in the central bay of Patmos, at the junction between the northern and southern parts of this island with its jagged topography. Founded in the 19th century, when the pirate threat had finally dissipated, Skala cheerfully welcomes travelers with its white houses and flower-filled courtyards. The main administrative buildings were erected by the Italians at the beginning of the last century. Here, you can stroll through pleasant lanes and pretty stores. The main square is always lively, day and night. For a swim, cross the town to the west coast and Chochlakas beach, or follow the bay beyond the shipyard to the Netia area and the family-friendly Meli beach.
