Welcome to Zakynthos (or Zante)! Arriving at its port-capital, you discover a town rebuilt after the earthquake and fire of 1953 in the same neoclassical style. This artificial ensemble makes Zakynthos look like an Italian film set. Spread out along the immense port, between Solomos Square (to the north) and Aghios Dyonisos Square (to the south), most of the activity is concentrated near the quays, along the Strata Marina. This is where you'll find most of the cafés, tourist agencies and car rental companies (Lamabardou Street). The "center" is behind Solomos Square, around Aghios Markos Square with the cathedral and Solomos Museum.
