On the west coast, in the mountains, this village is renowned for the quality of its honey and its beaches. There are steps leading down to the village, but you'll need to bring your own water. The road past the 17th-century monastery of Aghios Nikolaos, built on the site of a temple to Apollo, leads to Cape Lefkatas, also known as Kavos tis Kyras, in memory of the poetess Sappho who, according to legend, threw herself from the top of this 72-metre cliff. It is said that, in ancient times, priests from the temple of Apollo chose people who were carriers of evil and threw them into the sea.
