The town is always bustling with the comings and goings of ferries and pleasure boats. It's not the most attractive place on the island, however, and we can only recommend it to those who can't do without bars, discos and restaurants serving international cuisine. Nidri is home to the tomb of German archaeologist Dörpfeld, who believed it to be the site of Odysseus' ancient homeland, Ithaca. 17 kilometers from Lefkada, look out for a cult site: the former private island where Aristotle Onassis and his two children, Christina and Alexander, are buried lies in the Ionian Sea, just offshore from Nidri. Since bought out, it remains, by far, one of the island's curiosities.
