Monodendri is a lovely village located at an altitude of 1,000 meters. And as it is the highest village in this region, most excursions start from here. The small shops have been converted into tourist offices. It is around the central square that Monodendri comes alive, in the shade of the plane tree and to the rhythm of its inhabitants. On July 26, the day of Saint Paraskevi, the square is set ablaze. Visit also the monastery of Aghia Paraskevi which overlooks the Vikos ravine. Then leave Monodendri. The road that continues to climb leads to Oxia, a viewpoint culminating at 1,500m. Go there. It is best to be motorized, but there are buses from Ioaninna (www.ktelioannina.gr).
