Often mentioned in the Bible, Ar-Rabbah is the ancient capital of the kingdom of Moab. Conquered later by the Greeks, it was renamed Areopolis. An important center of the region, the city was destroyed in the 4th century by an earthquake. Some ruins lie to the north of the village, along the main road. One can see the remains of a Roman temple later transformed into a church by the Byzantines and capitals of Corinthian columns, tanks. The most beautiful "piece" is a carved stone representing trees and embedded in the left wall of the church. The city is located 17 kilometers north of Kerak.
