Tsofar (or Tzofar) was founded in 1970 by Israeli soldiers as a military camp. It officially became moshav in 1975, but was then moved several kilometres. Part of its land was placed under Jordanian control during the 1994 peace treaty. Agriculture and tourism, favoured for the latter by the proximity of the old spice road, are the main sources of income of this moshav.
