Tourists on their way to Lukang pass through Changhua without stopping there. Yet this city offers, apart from its administrative functions as the capital of the district, some curiosities such as its Buddha statue. To get a close-up view of the statue from the train station, walk about 1.5 km east. A Japanese-era train interchange just north of the station is worth a look. There are also some remains of historic Taiwan, as it is one of the oldest cities in the country; the Dutch had established their rear base there and Koxinga during its attack on Fort Zeelandia had fortified itself there.
