Just 4 km from Sóller (and 7 km from the sea), Fornalutx is considered by many Mallorcans to be the most beautiful village on the island. Listed as a historic site since 1972, this village is well worth a visit. Very well preserved, it was awarded the second national prize for the embellishment and improvement of Spanish villages in 1983. Everything here is stone, from the paving of the streets to the walls of the houses (new homes are required to use the local ochre rock). Fornalutx has the particularity of being built on the slope of Majorca's highest peak, Puig Major. At the top of the hill, on the side of the cemetery, the calm and beauty of the site are moving.
