We go especially to the side of Colón for the Free Zone, the fort San Lorenzo or the locks of Agua Clara. Located at the Atlantic exit of the canal, in the bay of Limon, 75 km northwest of Panama, it is the second largest city in the country with more than 200,000 inhabitants. Since its foundation in 1852, Colón has been dedicated to maritime transit and trade. Several large ports with state-of-the-art infrastructure are located in the vicinity, as well as an enclave dedicated to the free trade of goods: the Colón Free Zone (ZLC) where more than 35,000 people work. The executives live in the protected condominiums outside the city on the road to the locks and the employees come, for many, from the capital. It is a city where modernity and wealth rub shoulders with total destitution. Here, the wall separating rich and poor is not just an image: you enter the business world, the ZLC, by presenting your passport. Outside, dirty alleys and old dilapidated wooden houses testify to the abandonment by the authorities of a once prosperous city.
