At an altitude of 800 m, surrounded by cane fields, the town of Trois-Bassins has kept its authentic Creole character and its quiet and nonchalant way of life. The municipal territory has a difference in altitude of nearly 3,000 m, from the coast to the Grand Bénare, "from the beat of the blades to the top of the mountains". But it is in the shape of a strip 15 km long and only 2 to 3 km wide. Most motorists drive through the commune of Trois-Bassins without noticing it. Despite a population of more than 7,000 souls, this large town has little tourist interest, but it is a nice stopover if you drive along the Hubert Delisle road.
