In Martinique, there is a “commune of the extreme”. It is reachable by the “Gate of Hell” under a blazing sun by taking a steep road overlooking the Grande Rivière. On its banks stands a village with small houses topped with red tiles, curved by luxuriant vegetation and an untamed swell. At the end of the world, framed by high cliffs beaten by the waves, the Grande Rivière takes its name from the river that crosses it. Only the incessant comings and goings of the fishermen coming in and out of the port (just look at the impressive number of gomyé boats lined up on the beach!) disturb the peace and quiet of this small town.
