An extreme commune since 1839, the name Le Pêcheur is said to come from a rock, now submerged, with a curious shape reminiscent of a preacher in a pulpit. Le Prêcheur has not always enjoyed a tranquil atmosphere. The site of the confrontation between colonists and Caribbean Indians, it was here that the slave movement was born, leading to the abolition of slavery in Martinique. Today, if the atmosphere is endearing and authentic, you don't come to Le Prêcheur by chance, but to visit the magnificent Habitation Céron park and laze on the black sand of Anse Couleuvre, isolated and wild, from where you can see the coast of Dominica in the distance.
