La Chambre is a small village of about 1,200 inhabitants located in the Basse-Maurienne. Crossed by the Arc river, the village is located at the foot of the mythical passes of the Madeleine and the Glandon. The village became famous during the Middle Ages with the feudal family of La Chambre, which held the title of Viscount of Maurienne, the main local competitor of the future Savoy family. The lords of La Chambre disappeared at the end of the 15th century, but their name and titles were maintained in that of Seyssel. However, the commune maintained an agricultural activity, in particular with the membership of the Beaufort cheese production area
