To the east of Bourg-en-Bresse, bordered by the river Ain, Hautecourt-Romanèche is home to several remarkable sites on its territory. Starting with two natural areas of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest with the old sandpits of Romanèche and the Hautecourt cave, the first national underground nature reserve created in France, ideal shelter for bats. But it was the construction of the Allement dam in 1960 that partly changed the territory with the creation of Chambod Island. A 20-hectare protected natural area on the banks of the Ain with a huge navigable lake. Many water activities.
