Situated in the east of the Dombes, at the junction of the D22 and the D904, Chalamont is the highest point in the region (alt. 334 m). A small town of 2,500 inhabitants, it has many shops and its pretty medieval heart deserves a short visit. Three houses in the medieval quarter are listed as historical monuments: the Maron house, the Bolli house and the Mingat house. There are several footpaths to discover the surroundings. For those who enter the Dombes via Chalamont, it is from this large town that they will really discover this region with its characteristic landscape and more than 1,000 ponds.
