Montgenèvre, the oldest of the French ski resorts, was born in 1907 and is situated at an altitude of 1860 metres on the Italian border. It benefits from an ideal geographical position and an exceptional ski area. The Montgenèvre pass has been a privileged route since Antiquity: Julius Caesar, Charlemagne and Louis XIII passed through it. Napoleon also had his say, since he decided to build the road to Italy. An obelisk, a classic imperial symbol, has stood on the road at the exit of the village since 1804. The village resort of Montgenèvre offers many activities, including an 18-hole cross-border golf course.
