On the edge of the Durance, at the foot of the Luberon, Mallemort has kept its Provençal authenticity: its cobbled streets, its keep, the only vestige of the destroyed castle and even the church of Saint Michel which dominates the village. For a long time at the mercy of the floods of the Durance, the plain of Mallemort became fertile thanks to the irrigation system of the engineer Adam de Craponne and the village knew its apogee at the beginning of the 20th century for its great production of fruits and vegetables. People came from far and wide for its famous market. Mallemort is also the hamlet of Pont Royal, whose castle park is home to the only French golf course designed by golfing legend Severiano Ballesteros.
