Less than 400 inhabitants, the commune of Saint-Généroux is located some 15 km from Thouars. But it's worth a visit, as it's home to one of Poitou's oldest churches, built in the 10th century as a former priory belonging to the Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes abbey (7 km away). The ruins of the former convent can be seen to the right. The 12th-13th-century Romanesque bridge over the Thouet is also worth a visit: its 5 semicircular arches, 2 pedestrian shelters, cobbled roadway and rural panorama add to its charm. A refreshing stop-off on the Vélo Francette and the Thouet Valley tourist route.
