BROUAGENestled in the middle of the marshes, this small fortified town was founded by Jacques de Pons in 1555 and took the name of Jacopolis for a long time in homage to his creator. A former grenier of Europe, Brouage was born, among other things, Samuel de Champlain, a great explorer and founder of Quebec City in 1608, which explains that the city has become a place of pilgrimage for every Quebecker who respects himself. It was still in this growing city that Marie Mancini, niece of Mazarin, in 1659. Today, sailors and soldiers have disappeared, but their messages (also said graffiti), engraved in the stone, have resisted the wear of time and are all moving testimony of their passage. The site has preserved an outdated charm and remains one of the best examples of the military architecture prior to Vauban.
