Capital of a canton of 27 communes, Condé, Latin for "confluence", is still known as "the chamber pot of the Brie". Several valleys meet here: the Surmelin, the Verdonnelle and the Dhuys, a river chosen in 1866 by the city of Paris for its drinking water supply. On the plateaus, where crops are grown and livestock raised, farms that were once fortified stand out from the landscape. A pleasant stroll awaits the visitor, who can't fail to fall under the spell of this typical village, an ancient Gallo-Roman settlement and property of the Sires de Coucy. The Château de Condé-en-Brie is a must-see when visiting the village.
