To the northwest of Craonne, Bouconville-Vauclair is a rural commune situated on a hilly site surrounded by the Vauclair forest. Since rebuilt, the village was totally destroyed during the First World War. You can visit the ruins of Vauclair Abbey, a former Cistercian monastery to the south of the village. It was the war that led to its destruction, the abbey being located not far from the infamous Chemin des Dames. The commune's heritage also includes the church of Saint-Crépin-et-Saint-Crépinien, the Hurtebise farm and a network of trenches listed as a Monument Historique.
