We are here in the heart of the Catholic Vendée. Chavagnes was not spared by the Vendée wars either: 200 Chavagnais were victims. We owe the reconstruction of the town and the convent-like buildings to Father Baudouin, parish priest and founder of religious congregations, also nicknamed "the Saint of Chavagnes". Chavagnes-en-Paillers benefits from a rich natural heritage with the presence of 3 rivers (the Vendrenneau, the Doulay and the Petite Maine) crossing the commune, the lake of La Bultière, mills in a hilly landscape. Also worth seeing, the Pontereau wash house and the Lourdes mill.
