At 20 kilometres from Ancenis, Châteaubriant and Nort sur Erdre, less than an hour from Nantes, Angers, and even Rennes and Laval, the municipality of Riaillé has almost 2 200 inhabitants. Riaillé, backed by important forests, was formerly known for its iron industry. Nearby, the Provostière Pond provided the energy necessary for the operation of the forges. The manor of former masters of the forges (the Provostière), the blast furnace and the hall evoke the memory of an activity that is now extinct. Riaillé saw Gilles Trébuchet, master master and ancestor of Sophie Trébuchet, mother of Victor Hugo. You can see his house in La Poitevinière.
