Don't let Varaire stand in your way! This little village has it all. In days gone by, the Roman road linking Caylus to Cahors ran through the southern part of the village. This ancient road was known as the "Cami Gasco". The Pétronille cross along the Roman road marks the site of a hospital known as Saint-Jacques-de-Peyronèse, which welcomed pilgrims in the Middle Ages. Hospitality forged the identity of the village, which boasted two inns in the 16th century. Today, the village still has a hotel-restaurant that welcomes Compostelle pilgrims. A small grocery store keeps the village lively.
