Montamat, 133 inhabitants, is one of those medieval villages (castelnaux) built on an axis, against a motte. The village owes its origin to a 13th century castle built on a hillock. Today it is a commune of green hillsides with a panoramic view of the Pyrenees and the Esquinson valley. The commune has a number of farms, four of which are predominantly livestock farms, one of which is mainly organic and about five of which are mixed farming. The village church, dedicated to Saint Jean-Baptiste, has a bell tower with 3 bells, redesigned in the 19th century. This village, appreciated by sportsmen and nature lovers, offers a departure point for a hiking trail (PR 26 of 17km) which offers magnificent views of the Pyrenees and the Save valley. In the village, hikers can meet in a square named after them, eat in a covered market and relax from their walk by playing petanque. There are also picnic tables and a site for camping-cars. Summer festival with a meal and a walk at the end of July, coach trip in June, local festival with a walk and meal at the beginning of October. In addition to the festivities, there is a Geocaching course - a connected treasure hunt - starting from the village which leads to the neighbouring commune of Gaujac, offering the opportunity for a beautiful hike. It is one of the two Geocaching courses of the Savès gersois with the one, more urban, of Lombez. Amateurs can warm up their smartphone!In the village, Montamat has a parking area for motorhomes, near a reception hall with toilets and water, picnic tables and a 17 km marked hiking trail.
