Le Tholy, on the banks of the Cleurie river, is a village of almost 1,600 inhabitants at the gateway to the Ballons des Vosges nature park. The fir and spruce are king, and many hiking trails start here. For example, to the Roches Chevaliers, with its panoramic views over Le Tholy, La Forge and Julienrupt. Towards the curious circular chapel of Notre-Dame, the view stretches out over the Cleurie valley and the escarpments of Bouvacôte and Chèvre-Roche. The village was founded in the 16th century by a strong migration from Alsace. Timber dominates the region's economy, but there is also a cheese factory in the village.
