Soucht is a small village in the heart of the Bitscherland forests, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. It owes its name to the Count of Deux-Ponts de Bitche, who, when authorizing the foundation of a glassworks in the 17th century, is said to have said: " Sucht! ", referring to the location of the glassworks ("Search!" in German). For a century, the economy revolved around glass, before the village became the capital of clogs in the 1900s. Before the Second World War, Soucht had 60 clog makers! Today, only two remain.
