The first glassmakers called this village Meisenthal because of the presence of tits(meisen in German). On the crystal route, this village was one of the pioneers of glassmaking. After the Thirty Years' War, glassmakers from Soucht founded a new glassworks in 1704, which remained in operation until 1969. Until 1858, it was customary to hang apples on the Christmas tree. Deprived of these after a drought, a glassmaker created the famous Christmas baubles! But Meisenthal is more than just glassmaking: humans have been present here since ancient times, as evidenced by the Druidic rocks, the standing stone and the nearby castle.
