Right in the heart of the Trois Frontières region, Cattenom enjoys a privileged geographical location (10 km from Luxembourg, 15 km from Germany and 40 km from Belgium). The village now has the weighty reputation of being the site of one of France's nuclear power plants. Once part of Luxembourg, then Spain, Cattenom returned to France in 1643. A vast forest and a 37-hectare lake offer Cattenom residents a few opportunities for outdoor recreation, despite the view of the smokestacks. The town is not only famous for its power plant, but also for the largest open-air museum on the Maginot Line.
