Situated not far from France and close to the town of Esch-sur-Alzette, the commune of Mondercange is one of the oldest in Luxembourg, as evidenced by historical texts dating back to 965. The first Christian church was built in the 10th century, probably not far from the present-day church. The latter, in Baroque style, was built in the 18th century. It has also been listed as a National Monument for its distinctive architecture. In 1989, the remains of a vast Roman estate, the Villa Rustica, were discovered, proving that Mondercange has existed since Gallo-Roman times.
