In the heart of the Biesme valley, the village of Les Islettes is renowned for its earthenware, produced in the 18th century by the Bernard company, which has become a sought-after collector's item over the years. The village was the nerve center of the Argonne glass industry. Four production sites, from the 12th to the 20th century, have been identified in the commune. The Verrerie du Granrut was built in 1872 when the railway line was opened. Closed in 1937, it was the last factory in operation. In the village center, a permanent exhibition recounts the history of the region's glassworks, as well as that of the famous L'Idéal jars.
