The village of Futeau and its hamlets can be discovered in the heart of the forest. Futeau owes its origin to the installation of a glass factory towards the end of the 16th century. It owes its charm to its relief and to the timber-framed houses typical of the Argonne region. There are gîtes and a campsite on the edge of the forest, and three marked trails start from the hamlet of Bellefontaine. The hamlet, called "the end of the world", because the road does not go further, owes its particularity to the presence of half-timbered and cob houses from the 17th century, modest and rustic, former residences of the glass nobility. It was once the village of the "Hazis" (in patois it means burnt, toasted), the glass noblemen.Clever discovery: In the hamlet of Bellefontaine you can admire an important square building built in gaize. The roof is characteristic of the Italian influence, introduced by the master glassmakers who came in the 16th century.
