During the Great War, during the second battle of Champagne, Florent-en-Argonne was just a few kilometers from the front line. The historian Marc Bloch stayed here during this period. On the outskirts of the village, at the top of the steep road that descends into the Biesme valley towards Le Claon, lies a national necropolis, inaugurated in 1923. St. Florent is a picturesque village with beautiful Argonne-style houses. Until 1985, barrels were made here for the Champagne region and beyond. In 1860, there were as many as 200 coopers! For the record, a few barrels adorn the traffic circle at the entrance to the village.
